HEAD CHEF - FUll time

- The Railway Inn next to Portslade train station is looking for an experienced Head Chef.

This is a food led community pub serving traditional British food every day. The food we serve is made using fresh ingredients in an approachable, home cooked, nice portioned style. Alongside our daily menu we have an ever-changing specials board that allows you to create new dishes. Vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free food needs to be well represented on your menu.
As we are family friendly, we also require healthy children’s options. You need to be able to produce consistently great Sunday lunches, serving 200 plus a week.

We also cater for private parties, weddings, and a host of other occasions, so you will need to be able to produce a solid function food offering. (Once Covid restrictions are lifted)

As head chef you will have overall responsibility for the food side of our business. Including - menu planning, stock ordering and control, staffing, food hygiene & health and safety. You  need to be able to ensure the kitchen meets its profit margins and targets, so the kitchen is run in a financially viable way.

You need to be able to perform with a cool head during a busy service and be well organised. Training staff to perform to your standard when you have days off. The kitchen needs to be run in a professional manner, producing great food that is served quickly, looks and tastes great.

We are looking for someone who sees this as a long-term position. You need to have several years’ experience in a similar role.
Salary – £30,000 - £32,000 per year but will be discussed dependant on experience
– 28 days paid holiday - 48 hour week – 2 clear days off –- pension scheme - friendly and positive working environment.

Sous Chef - Full Time

We are looking for an experienced and passionate sous chef to join our team at The Basketmakers, in central Brighton.

You will be responsible for the running of our busy kitchen in the head chef’s absence.
We are looking for someone organised, with plenty of experience who is able to work on their own initiative,
work well under pressure and give clear direction to other in the team.

The focus will be on seafood alongside traditional British dishes. You will be making the best of fresh seasonal ingredients.
We have a daily menu but will keep things interesting by offering a range of daily specials.
This is a challenging yet exciting venture for the right person.


You need to be able to produce & present dishes to meet the required standard and assist with managing & maintaining stock
& storage as well as ensuring your work area is kept clean & tidy at all times, meeting Health & Safety standards.


We can offer you a salary of £25,000 - £27,000pa d.o.e. 
You will get a share of tips, 28 days holiday, flexible working hours, 2 clear days off, pension scheme,
a positive and friendly work environment.
